THE BLOG WILL BE POSTED ON THE
1st and 3rd WEEK OF EVERY MONTH.
Boy that was weird. Two weeks in between Blogs. So, what was it like for you guys? Did it seem weird? Did it mess you up?
I know most of you know my background. You all remember me surfing every single day for a year here in NH in Memory of my father in 2000 to 2001. I was 50 years old when I embarked on that undertaking. CATCH A WAVE FOIR GUS. And you also remember me doing it again when I was 60 years old. I did it again. I surfed every single day for a year in Memory of this little local girl MOLLY. I called that one CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY. The year I surfed for Molly I kept a daily Blog for one year. It's still up. You can read it simply by clicking on the CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY graphic on this page.
I wrote all about what it was like the day after both surf campaigns.
And much to my surprise they were eerily similar. The Day after both campaigns ended
it was the hardest thing to overcome. The NOT surfing the next day. I remember writing that if you did anything in life every single day for a whole year, the day after you stopped, you would find yourself naturally trying to do whatever it was that you were doing for that year. In both years for me, I needed to go to the beach. There was this inner magnet that was pulling me to the ocean. It was like I had no control of it. I had to go back down to the ocean. I remember trying to explain to Cory how hard it was to just stop.
It sounds a little like an addict talking. I suppose I was addicted to surfing.
Not that being addicted to surfing is bad thing, but it was like dealing with withdrawals. I mean, I had to go down and wean myself off of the waves. It took me several days after the MOLLY Campaign to finally stop. I think I ended up surfing 369 days instead of 365. It literally took me 4 extra days to get myself to stop. I remember thinking how weird it was that I couldn't stop. The first time it was just that first day. But the Molly? That was hard.
So am I going through the same with Blog?
After 20 years?
Yes and no. First and foremost, the Blog is only once a week.
Not to downplay the significance of a weekly campaign as opposed to a daily campaign. But there were a few similarities. It's like anything else you do for a significant number of times. But I admit, last weekend felt weird. There was no self imposed deadline. There was (surprisingly) no real surf to speak of. There was a waist high swell on Wednesday, but nothing really good where I had to go down and shoot and document. Besides I knew that Dina Crawford was shooting as was Erica Nardone.
Don't get me wrong if there were real waves? I would have been all over it.
So I am thinking that the first and third week of every month will be the new norm for me. And if there
is any really good swells that fall in between those allotted days I'll shoot them, and maybe even post them on the existing Blog. I'm in new territory here now. I'm still honing this down to a new workable program. I hope it wasn't too much of jolt for you weekly readers. And speaking of which, thank you for all the accolades and well wishes on social media and beyond. They were all so much appreciated. To be honest with you, I was truly humbled by all of you who took the time to acknowledge the last 20 years.
It's hard to believe it's been 20 years. But looking at these pics of me from 2004 and 2024 it's not that hard to believe. I'm still going to be taking photos and videos of you all during every swell. Just remember the new schedule. The 1st and 3rd week of every month. You got it?
I knew that you could.
Ralph in 2004 and Ralph in 2024.

Ed O'Connell was one of the most loved surf photographers in New England. A US ARMY Vietnam Veteran who saved the lives of so many ARMY Grunts in Nam in 68-69 as a Medic on board those Dust Off Hueys.
He was a close and dear friend of mine.
When he passed on July 1st, 2014 I swore I'd keep his memory and legacy alive by giving him this weekly corner. He loved surfing and he loved taking photos of all the surfers. Not just those who could really stand out. He shot every one. As long as I shall live and breathe the salt air, there will be a corner dedicated to Ed.
ED'S CORNER April 28th, 2024
This is me from March 13th, 2011 when I skated for the SURFERS against the BRUINS Alumni in the MOLLY Hockey game. While I never scored a goal, I did get a shot on net. This was a great afternoon for a great cause. Oh GO BRUINS!

COMING THIS LATE SPRING of 2024 (June).
My book that I have been writing the last 100 years or so. It's looking more and more like the book will be out long after I hit my 20th Year Anniversary of this Blog. And that will be double the reason to celebrate. BOOK and BLOG.
And YES, there will be a book signing. And I will let you all know in advance, where and when. The book will be available in both hard cover and soft cover on AMAZON, BARNES & NOBLE, INGRAM, GOOGLE BOOKS, and KOBO PUBLISHING.
Most of my close friends have heard some of these stories first hand. But trust me, with over 100 stories, there's a handful that none of you have ever heard. It's true. Be patient my friends.
It's all coming in June of 2024.

One of my favorite times of the year is the HBCF. Look for a future LOCAL LEGENDS Story on Jimmy in the near future. He's currently in LA working on the 2nd season of FRASIER with Kelsey Grammer. I suggest you get your tickets early for the HBCF because they sell out pretty quickly.

Every donation helps. No matter how bog or how small.
The NEXT BLOG will be posted in two weeks.

Look who's calling the Kettle Black. Oh "Snoozes-Alot" can't stay awake at his HUSH MONEY TRIAL for paying off Porn Star STORMY DANIELS while his beautiful wife was home with her their new baby son Baron. You can't make this shit up folks.
Robert Kennedy Jr gave Ole "Lies-alot" a ration of shit for saying what he did about RFK. Trump better be careful. According to the latest polls RFK's running for president hurts him more than it hurts Biden. He should concentrate on the four criminal trials he's facing instead of slamming RFK. Now as far as Khaliddy getting involved? You know how that works. The Sheik is forever putting his nose in places he has no business being involved. But that's how The Sheik Rolls. He don't care what we think. He just needs to get the scoop on the latest Political gossip for the GITMO GAZETTE. Man what a wacky world we live in.
And so my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed). *Note to self -must pick up a case of SIRHAN SIRHAN's autobiography at Home Depot this week.
PLEASE KEEP Karen Evans in your thoughts and prayers. Karen is currently battling FTD (Frontotemporal Dementia) a result of damage to neurons in the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain. She's doing remarkably well in dealing with this condition. The Evans have been local icons here for as long as I can remember. All the Surf Families are in full support of Rick, Karen, Matt, Megan and Nick and baby Luka, and of course Mikel. Sending your positive thoughts and prayers are welcome.
REST IN PEACE John Gooch musician/surfer friend.
*I'll be doing a longer piece on John Gooch in one of the next Blogs.

THE UNINTENTIONAL YESTERDAY PHOTO. 1978-2009
I know I know...it almost looks real. Except Mackey has no tan compared to the Hollywood surfers. Still, it's pretty ironic that they look so similar.

I kept a daily Blog on my CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY surf campaign, when I surfed every single day for 365 consecutive days. Click on the Banner above to read entries of my daily journey. There's some really interesting and true experiences
that happened during that year. Some of which are to this day, unexplainable. Some are just mind blowing. But all true.
I started on July 26th, 2010 and ended on July 26th, 2011.
Some rainy Sunday, pour yourself a cup and go through the journal.
Pay close attention to the month of May in 2011. Read that month and let me know what you think of that. Be forewarned it will change you forever.
